Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights education for young people in Uganda
PROTECT SRHR is a four-year project that aims to improve access to and utilisation of quality Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services among adolescents, women, girls, and vulnerable populations in the West Nile Region of Uganda.
All people have a right to a healthy life, free from violence. They have the right to make choices about their lives, body and futures, for themselves and as active citizens in their communities.
Children and young people with disabilities need information and life skills, delivered in ways that meet their needs and abilities to make informed choices and lead healthy lives.
Impel developed a training guide aligned with Uganda’s National Framework for education on health and life skills, offering teachers practical approaches for inclusive instruction for children and young people with disabilities. The training is rights-based, aligned with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and directly shaped by ‘nothing about us without us’.
The training serves as a foundational course for senior teachers who will deliver (and/ or train other teachers to deliver) inclusive health and life skills training to young people with disabilities. The training ensures senior teachers feel able to confidently deliver accurate, inclusive and context-appropriate health and life education; builds senior teachers’ understanding of the application and importance of health and life skills to young people with disabilities; models and explores delivery of health and life skills content to learners with disabilities.
