Photovoice-based research on identity and intersectionality

In 2023, our team approached Save the Children Kosovo with a research proposal for a photovoice-based study on identity and intersectionality with diverse young people. In January 2024, Save Kosovo was granted EU funding for a large children’s rights programme (Rights Amplified: Inclusive Development and Social Inclusion of Children, Youth and Families Most Impacted by Discrimination in Kosovo) into which our photovoice-based study was integrated.

The research took place from April to July 2025; it engaged 10 young people from around Kosovo. During a five-day, intensive workshop the young people learned a range of key photography and caption writing skills which were enriched with discussions around identity and power. The young people were tasked with creating a photographic image with a caption that best represented their identity at this time. On 17th July 2025, a public exhibition of their photographs alongside images of the research process was held in Europe House in Pristina. The exhibition is now due to tour Kosovo to enable more of the young people’s families, friends and peers to share the experience.

Along with a full report we have also produced a short video showcasing the exhibition.
